Summer Internship Experience @ QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey
Reflections allow one to pause amidst the chaos, untangle and sort through observations and experiences, often the most effective method to grow and improve.
So here I am presenting my reflection on what was one of the most fulfilling summers as an intern at QuantumBlack AI, McKinsey.
A London-based company with roots in Formula 1 motor racing pioneering the use of big data and advanced analytics to improve organizational performance, a part of McKinsey since 2015. A company with problem-solving abilities from the consulting firm working with cutting-edge data technology on the hardest of client problems.
Summer is the best opportunity to explore new opportunities for students. Helps in making an informed decision, once you have already worked as an employee and seeing what the future holds: observing/interacting with seniors, leads, and experts.
After the first week of the McKinsey embark session, wherein you work through case studies with students from Harvard, Cornell, Wharton, and other schools (mainly MBA students). In an industry, I would never imagine myself working, here was an opportunity to explore something new !! Exciting times ahead !!
I had to design an algorithm to tackle geospatial data which was challenging, as venturing into geometry data was something new. While setting up sustainable data pipelines. I explored various python libraries like Dagster and DBT apart from the tech stack that involved Databricks, Snowflake etc.
What enriches the whole experience is the people you interact with, technical leads and experts, solving complex problems. QuantumBlack teams generally involve Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and MLEs that work together in a team along with the managers and User adoption teams on a project to deliver value to clients.
Tech in Consulting is solving some real-world problems. The firm augments new and long-term client relationships by bridging technology shortcomings.
Life at McKinsey was full of travels , team dinners, outdoor, and networking events to interact with people outside of office buildings.
The interview process for QB McKinsey was very smooth starting with an online assessment and then 4 rounds of interviews. The logistics throughout the internship were planned to keep the interns’ experience in mind. QuantumBlack Careers.
